Volunteer At Educo

Our programs wouldn’t be possible without dedicated, energetic and curious volunteers. Volunteers not only enrich our work with their time and efforts but also with their unique perspectives and personalities. Every year, we are honoured to host nearly 100 volunteers throughout the season who contribute nearly 5000 hours.

While Educo is the benefit of much love, care and labour from our volunteers, there are many benefits for a volunteer at Educo:

  • Connect to a community of spirited, welcoming, hard-working and fun humans.
  • Learn new skills (be it fixing a canoe on clean-up weekend or facilitating a debrief or circle of honest conversation).
  • Take your own time-out from the digital world to be under vast starry skies and be present to the people right next to you.
  • Challenge yourself to reflect on your life and explore current questions within yourself.

For program volunteers (HomeTeam and On-Course), check out our Info Guide for Program Volunteers. After referencing that, please contact info@educo.ca with any further questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Educo Adventure School - 100 Mile House BC, Clean-up-weekend-volunteers
Join the staff team and the board of directors to open and close the site every year. Come for the weekend and help with all sorts of odd yet important jobs:

  • Setting/closing up the garden
  • Bucking and chopping wood
  • Filling fire barrels
  • Counting inventory
  • Setting up/taking down the climbing wall and high ropes
  • Packing/un-packing costumes
  • Hanging Course
  • Theme flags in the rec hall
  • Construction projects
  • Cooking in the kitchen
    Dish Parties and more!

In the evenings, we share scrumptious meals together and warm our hands by the bonfire. Often there’s a rowdy game of frisbee to be had before/after dinner!

Check out our Adult & Family Events pages (see left menu) for annual information and dates. No experience necessary, no application necessary! Just RSVP to let us know you’re coming so we can ensure to have enough food for all our hard-working volunteers.

Educo Adventure School - 100 Mile House BC, HomeTeam volunteers
Between May and September, be a part of the team that helps make magic happen on programs.

HomeTeam volunteers are site-based helpers who bring ease and flow to a course. “HomeTeamers” help out with all sorts of jobs, from site maintenance to program activities:

  • Creative planning for program pieces (skits, swamp adventures, scavenger hunts, wide games, eco-challenges and more)
  • Assisting at the high ropes
  • Assisting at the climbing wall
  • Food prep in the kitchen and for out-trips
  • Meal set-up & clean up
  • Assistance with Dish Parties
  • Basic construction projects
  • Cleaning outhouses

Be a part of the hard work, the shennanigans and the life learning our staff are doing. If you’re new to Educo or this is your first time volunteering after graduating from Leadership, we recommend HomeTeam for your starting point. It’s a great place to learn the lay of the land and how the work day flows.

Educo Adventure School - 100 Mile House BC, On-course volunteers
In July and August, we welcome volunteers to assist our facilitation teams in running our summer courses.

On-course volunteers contribute creativity and fresh perspective to their two staff colleagues and a group of 10 to 12 students. These volunteers act as role models for students, sharing in the experience of facing new experiences and the unknown. The on-course volunteer position is a great place to offer mentorship to students and to learn from and collaborate with their fellow facilitators.

On-course volunteers live, learn and travel with their staff team and student group for anywhere from 5 to 14 days straight.

On-course volunteers can expect to:

  • Coach and challenge students in the high ropes and on the climbing wall
  • Encourage students through their mountain trip (dependent on specific course)
  • Craft and ask powerful questions
  • Play games
  • Assist in logistics (packing, etc).
  • Inspire positive group culture

Given the intensity of the on-course volunteer position, we seek candidates with previous HomeTeam experience at Educo OR candidates with diverse life experience and keen curiosity.

To apply to volunteer, please complete the following application form. To complete the form you will need your digital PDF version of your resume to upload. The resume should include your work experience, volunteer experience, trainings and certifications. i.e. First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Rock Climbing, Hiking, Lifeguard, Leadership, Facilitation…
