CREATIVE WAYS TO SAVE ON GEAR GEAR LISTS FOR YOUR COURSE
What the heck is a Moleskin? Who is Dr. Bronner? Can I use my grandpa's old Army hiking boots? We know the equipment list looks extensive - but really - to maintain some level of comfort in all types of weather and temperatures, it's all necessary! But there are ways to save! Borrow borrow, borrow! (OK maybe don't borrow your brother's underwear) Fleece jackets, wool sweaters, raingear . . . these are things sitting in your friend's closets waiting to be borrowed! Also, scour through the local second hand stores for wool pants and sweaters. They're cheap and ever so stylish! There are a few things that you want to be sure you don't cut corners on though, which doesn't mean you have to buy it new, but make sure it fits! Hiking boots, backpack and raingear are all essential items that need to be geared to fit. Also your sleeping bag needs to be able to be packed small and keep you warm (-5ºc) at the same time! As for the specifics, moleskin (for blisters) can be found at a drug store and Dr. Bronner's biodegradable soap can be purchased at Save On Foods/Overwaitea or your local health food store. Pack your things in zip lock bags, label all of it, and let's head outdoors! Call our office if you have any questions. Download the Equipment List for your particular course here: |
