I first came to this wild and wonderful place in the summer of 2009. The experience quickly found a place in my heart; by the end of 10 days, I had decided that Educo was something I wanted to be a part of my teenage and adult life. I have returned every summer since — as a student, a volunteer, and now as a staff.
I return each year for a number of reasons, but the biggest of these is that I feel passionately about the synthesis of connecting with youth and being outdoors. There is something about the vastness of mountains and the quiet hum of the forest that fosters personal growth in a way that I don’t believe can be found elsewhere. My hope is that students leave Educo feeling opened and changed, as I did and still do.
Outside of Educo, I study Global Studies and Political Science at the University of Northern BC. I am fascinated by the complexity and interconnectedness of our world, and hope to see more of it after I graduate. In the meantime, I spend much of my days at the climbing gym and the campus radio station.
